the War has begun?

Diane Francis of the National Post says the war may have begun.

It seems the fix is already in and Saddam’s country has already been invaded by those who are concerned the most about his behaviour and threats. And should be.

And it looks as though if he is removed the goal will be to eliminate dangers in the region permanently by partitioning Iraq into separate countries run by the Kurdish, Turkoman and Shiite minorities that have been treated hideously by the monstrous Saddam.

Bush is smarter than the chattering classes give him credit for.

Embarrassment continues…

Just when you thought our leader could not get more ridiculous…

“You cannot exercise your powers to the point of humiliation for the others,” Chr?tien told interviewer Peter Mansbridge.

“And that is what the western world – not only the Americans, the western world – has to realize. Because they are human beings, too.”

Some interpreted those comments as suggesting the U.S. was to blame for the attacks.

Tot dies alone in apartment

Mother charged with criminal negligence

By JONATHAN KINGSTONE, TORONTO SUN

A young mom is charged in the death of her two-year-old child who died of dehydration after allegedly being left alone for a day without food or water in a sweltering North York apartment.

“This is a tragedy that should never have happened,” said a friend and neighbour of the family.

Adrianna Maria Henriques DaSilva was found dead Monday in the Biggin Ct. apartment, near Victoria Park and Eglinton Aves., where she lived with her mother.

An autopsy performed Tuesday found the cause of death to be dehydration.

Clara DaSilva, 22, is scheduled to appear in College Park court today to face a charge of criminal negligence causing death.

A police source alleged the mother was “partying” and left Adrianna alone for up to 25 hours in the non-air conditioned, fourth-floor apartment in Monday’s scorching heat.

‘DANCING AT CLUB’

“She goes dancing at a club downtown every Sunday night,” said DaSilva’s friend and neighbour. “That’s where she was.”

The building’s superintendent said DaSilva arrived back at 4:45 p.m. Monday and called from the lobby for help getting into her apartment.

“She said her purse had been stolen and she didn’t have a key,” said the super, who didn’t want to be named. “I let her in. She thanked me and I left.”

More than one hour later, shortly after 6 p.m., DaSilva came to neighbour Nalini Dipchand’s apartment and knocked on the door.

“She said, ‘My baby’s not breathing. Her mouth is blue’,” Dipchand said yesterday. “I phoned 911.”

The emergency line operator asked to speak with DaSilva, who came to the phone and told the call-taker that Adrianna was “stiff as a board,” said Dipchand, Dipchand, a mother of two who often looked after Adrianna, said DaSilva told her she left her daughter with a babysitter whom she met within the last week.

“She said the woman took off,” Dipchand said. “I said, ‘Let’s call her,’ but she didn’t have the number.”

The accused woman’s friend added: “There are so many people who would have looked after that little girl.”

The little girl had a regular babysitter who recently refused to return after not being paid, friends alleged.

Adrianna was born three months premature and her tiny size left her slow to sit up, crawl and walk.

“She was always a happy little girl,” Dipchand said. “She was so happy to finally be walking. She wouldn’t sit down.”

Friends helped Adrianna’s dad—who they said came by often to take Adrianna out—make funeral arrangements yesterday.

Our leader

Is there anyway we can fastrack our embarrassing PM’s retirement?  We already know he cannot speak either official language properly, but his latest butchering of the English language is disgraceful.  In the following article, CBC News: PM wants proof before backing attack on Iraq, the passage in question is:

“A proof is a proof. What kind of a proof? It’s a proof. A proof is a proof. And when you have a good proof, it’s because it’s proven.”

What would you as President Bush say if a world leader said these words to you?  President Bush just gave his well spoken (and written, although speechwriters can take credit for it) speech, and then he meets with our leader and tries to come up with words that make sense to Chretien.

Zimbabwe

Breeze editorial: Disaster grips Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe is a man-made disaster.  All white farmers are being evicted from their lands, lands to be turned over to the blacks.  Mugabe claims he is trying to right the wrongs of British colonialism.  Meanwhile, millions are starving since the only farmers than can run a productive farm are the whites being evicted and/or jailed.

Meanwhile, the politically correct world sits idly by, offering only platitudes and shrugs.  When whites are being discriminated against, that’s to wrong a right.  When blacks are discriminated against, it’s racism.  This is called politically correct racism, and is widely practiced in the west.

This new world order has no winners, especially in Zimbabwe (except maybe a few of Mugabe’s friends.)

September 11

Tomorrow will be a traumatic day (although not nearly as traumatic as 2001).  Already the U.S. is gearing up for some invisible enemy (at least according to the Breaking News on CNN).  Personally, I don’t think anything will happen.  Bin Laden and/or whoever was behind the terrorist attacks don’t follow anniversaries like we do, so they could care less about doing something tomorrow.  If they ever try anything again, they will do it when everything has settled down and no one’s expecting it.  Although it’s highly unlikely that we’ll ever get to that “untouchable/invincible” state again (or, more to the point, the States will ever get to that state again – no one cares what happens to Canada and with a leader like Chretien, who can blame them?).

I hope they don’t rebuild where the WTC stood.  I realize that in Manhattan, that’s prime real estate, but they should just leave it and make a park or something like in Oklahoma City.  Too many people died too tragically for them to build anything there.  Actually, they should just keep those two lights that they have beaming into the sky.  That’s about as perfect as they can get it.

There’s an electronic memorial quilt for 9/11 that is a nice thought.  Should anyone care to check it out, the address is here.  Should you even get that far, our patch number is 6×196445.

Gun control

If you are against gun control, as I am, then you’ll appreciate this article – a letter of the day in the Toronto Sun.

ONCE AGAIN, the moral bankruptcy of Canada’s firearms laws raises its ugly head with the death of gun shop employee John Fullerton.

There is no doubt that had our federal government trusted law-abiding citizens as much as it does our criminals, Fullerton would have been allowed to use a firearm for self-defence. Perhaps then our police wouldn’t have the very real problem of trying to recover more than 75 handguns now in the hands of cowards who would shoot an unarmed person thanks in no small part to a law endangering the lives of the law-abiding while doing nothing to curtail the criminal element.

Over the past year, Toronto police have worked hard to get illegal guns off the streets. What they don’t need is a law that takes their attention from real criminals while having them enforce our government’s ill-conceived firearms registration requirements imposed on people who are virtually never the problem.

Studies have shown that criminals fear armed civilians far more than they do the police, if for no other reason than the fact they don’t know who may have a gun.

Any politician who believes a criminal is going to wait for the police to arrive would probably parrot firearms legislation from other countries where it has failed also, and most certainly would never dredge up the courage to admit their billion-dollar-plus boondoggle has already cost more lives than it will ever save. The police need the help of law-abiding people to reduce crime not silly firearms legislation.

Had our government trusted its law-abiding citizens, maybe Mr. Fullerton would be alive today.

(Ironically, had Fullerton been allowed a weapon – and had he used it – he’d now be the one facing criminal charges)
