Mulroney smear ends

The interminable campaign to smear Mulroney has finally ended.

“It is just incredible that our national police force could have undertaken an investigation that was based from the beginning on rumour and innuendo from journalists and the electronic media,” he said.

“This investigation has not only wasted manpower and millions of dollars but made it a disgrace, not only for the RCMP, but equally for the federal department and the federal government.”

Chretien does have a legacy: destroying or discrediting everything Mulroney did.

Tragedy

It’s too bad the gun registry didn’t save this unfortunate soul who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

After he was widowed, Arbaji returned to Lebanon and found a new wife, Abeer, and brought her back to Canada.

The couple has a son, 3, and an 18-month-old daughter.

Being in a similar industry, I’ve often wondered how the families of these pensionless men get on.  So, whenever possible, I’ll be posting trust fund info in my new tragedy forum.

I’ll post information when I can find it….

Murder suspect

Do you think it’s relevant that the murder suspect is fully described, including skin color?  This (politically correct) Star article doesn’t think it’s important.

The robber had a bandana covering most of his face, but police said he appeared to be in his late teens.

He was armed with a silver handgun and carrying a backpack.

Meanwhile, the (not-so-p.c.) Sun has the guts to put in the whole description.

The suspect is a male black, 5-foot-7, 150 pounds, wore a bandanna over his face, has a slight beard growth and is armed with a silver handgun.

Meanwhile Star readers may be bumping into the suspect.

Cuba, Si!

Have a great vacation in Cuba, all you see no evil, hear no evil Canadians.

I wonder how many anti-war protesters went to Cuba in the last few years?

Controlling News

Mark Steyn on how the media drives and controls the news.

But, if I were Howell Raines, I’d crawl into a fetal position halfway down the fairway and hope the groundsmen grass me over. The Times’ carpet bombing of Augusta has proved a pathetic bunker-bust. This is supposed to be the most influential newspaper in America, the one whose front page all but dictates the agenda of the network news shows.

Down there, they have The Times, here, we have the CBC.

Thank God for the internet (and Steyn).

Happy (SARS) Easter

Have a great Easter and Passover.  It’s crazy what’s going on with the SARS “epidemic” in Toronto.  I wish we had some perspective on this thing, ie. how is this different from the flu and how many people die of the flu and pneumonia each day?  I read 36 000 Americans die of the flu every year.  We don’t see that reported.

Then there are those who are convinced the whole SARS scare is a scam.

It’s hard to know what the truth is.

Keep washing your hands and keep your hands out of your eyes.

Man usually guilty

It’s been the media’s favorite murder story, and now that the bodies have been found, the husband has been arrested.

Scott Peterson was being held in California on suspicion of killing his pregnant wife, Laci, whose remains and those of their unborn boy were found on the San Francisco Bay shoreline.

Whenever a woman dies, the police immediately look to the man in her life.  It’s a simple process, so I’m sure the police have been very careful (thanks to OJ) to handle this case properly.

Fraud

A story of a broker cleaning out his clients’ accounts always interests me, as I was personally a victim of a quasi-broker who did the same thing.

The investigation into Stephen White, the star Bank of Nova Scotia broker who resigned under mysterious circumstances two weeks ago, has spread to accounts at other dealers and is focusing on his dealings with a wealthy Toronto family that appears to have lost millions of dollars.

Note to future investors: be prepared to lose it all if investing in futures and options.  If you are taking naked positions, be prepared to lose more than what you put up.

For every story the hits the papers, there must be 10 more that don’t make the news.  Personally, my fraudster went to jail.  If more people speak out, it can serve as a lesson and warning to fraudees and fraudsters alike.

Comment if you have a story.

UN Ignores Zimbabwe

LGF on the UN, and how it ignores Zimbabwe.

As the world focuses on the conflict in the Middle East, Jacques Chirac’s dictator friend Robert Mugabe has unleashed a reign of unprecedented terror against political opponents in Zimbabwe. (Hat tip: Jewels.)

Hey Crouton: this is a candidate for regime change.  If you don’t think being forced to rape your kid in front of government soldiers is reason enough, then you are an imbecile – sir.

Killing babies in Canada

I meant to link to this article earlier, but only now remembered.  Being the father of two little precious angels, few stories turn my stomach like this one.

Peter Currie took his little 2-year-old daughter into a secluded wooded area, slashed her throat four times and left her to die alone.

As the father returned to his rented van, Alexis clutched dirt and leaves in her tiny left hand under a pine tree where she was later found lying face down. The toddler died from the sharp force injuries to the neck; hypothermia was also a contributing factor.

A cold blooded, premeditated murder – reduced to 2nd degree murder – a plea bargain – to save time and heartache.

The courts let this poor little 2 year old, who barely started life, down, and down hard.  Children rarely have a voice, murdered children especially so.

They key in any Canadian sentence is the parole eligibility, in this case, 18 years.

18 years for premeditated murder is shameful.

Canada needs the death penalty brought back now.

Possible?

Why do I get the sinking feeling that this could take place in Canada?  phillips1.gif style=border-style:solid;border-color: yellow width=450 height=354

So what will Canada do about Iraqi terrorists claiming refugee status?  Nothing, probably.

No stereos

Remember Ben Johnson?  Well, he’s still at it – trying to tell the world he wasn’t the only one who was doing drugs to get fast.  It’s finally coming out that Carl Lewis was on drugs too.

For Ben Johnson, it is payback time. For a short, heady time after his stunning triumph in the 100 metres sprint at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, Johnson was the fastest man in the world, the Olympic champion, world record-holder, Canadian hero and winner of a bitter personal duel with the then prince of the track, American Carl Lewis.

Hey Ben, we know you were not the only one.  We also know you were the only one to get caught at the worst time.
