Get off your a**

If you’re a married woman and wonder why your husband won’t get off the couch to take out the trash, here’s why.

Once men’s urges to start a family have been satisfied, the wellsprings of productivity, whether in science, art or crime, run dry, Kanazawa suggests.

EU Lunacy

Another series of examples of the lunacy that is the EUreaucracy.

What’s next, mandatory safety goggles for exotic dancers in case a tassel rotates out of control and takes out an eye?

One can only hope Canada doesn’t catch the disease.  Centralization gone mad.

Punch up

I love it when two government agencies fight each other, especially over something as stupid as a farmer’s tire fence.

Tire fences are appealing to farmers because of their cost effectiveness, since recycling subsidies mean farmers are actually compensated for using scrap tires rather than having to pay to build a traditional fence.

So let’s see, he’s subsidized by one government agency for building a tire fence, and the other agency wants it removed.

Again, we have too much government!

Cuba’s dictator

Speaking of old dictators, Samizdata reports that Cuba could be free of Castro within the year…

Fidel Castro, in a speech to the masses, has announced that he will not accept any more aid from the European Union as people connected with this organization have made critical comments about some of the policies of his regime.

All you Canucks that insist on going down to Cuba on cheap holidays should know better too…look who you’re propping up.

President for Life

Idi Amin still won’t go away – so Mark gives us an update on his life so far.

But what he really was was a psychopath. In eight years, more than 300,000 Ugandans were killed. He enjoyed personally decapitating his enemies, and on one occasion he and a few family friends passed a pleasant farewell dinner with the severed heads of two opponents propped up at their places round the table.

Before you give

If you’re like me, you hate idiots coming to your door begging for money.

Just the other day, some guy came asking me to prepay $24 for Domino’s Pizza.  I told him I’ve never heard of anything quite as stupid – even though his come on was to offer a free pizza or something.

Most of the come-ons involve children.  Children with smiley faces are often prominently displayed to illicit sympathy.  Be aware that most people coming to your door are paid money raisers.  This is fine – I don’t mind someone making a living – but just be aware a good chunk of your hard earned donation is going to them.

Mega government

Examples of Europe’s biggest growth industry- the EU bureaucracy – keep coming.

Picture Italy without its curvy, half-clad television hostesses. Imagine a Western European city where men and women pay the same amount for insurance, regardless of how recklessly they drive or how long they live. Ponder going to school in Britain without references to Jack the engineer and Jill the nurse.

Has anyone done a study on how much this mega-disaster is going to cost the average European?  It is truly frightening the extent of regulation about to occur.

Prison Works

As the Matti killers may be getting out of jail before they even officially begin serving their sentence, Alasdair Palmer explains that incarceration, although expensive, is working in the US.

“Prison works” may be the only example in history of a memorable political slogan which has the merit of being true. Over the last decade, America has been building prisons on an unprecedented scale. The US courts now imprison more than twice as many of those convicted of crime than it did 10 years ago. The result is that America has experienced a dramatic fall in the proportion of its citizens who fall victim to crime.

Our prison sentences seem to be too short in Canada – at least that’s how I perceive it to be – as do most Canadians.

Sentencing for two men convicted of manslaughter in the death of Dmitri “Matti” Baranovski will be delayed while their lawyers consider an attempt to move the process to youth court ? where even the maximum sentence could see them freed at once.

Can it happen to you?

Coren writes on the child left in the car story today.  As I said in my entry, it’s hard to say if more punishment is needed.

Believe it or not, there really is a non-profit group dedicated to alerting people to the dangers of leaving babies in cars all day. Thank goodness for that…But can it really happen to anyone?

It probably doesn’t happen to just anyone.  The bottom line is that the child pays the price for the parent’s stupidy, so Darwin is really weeding out the wrong people.

Problems?

You think you have money problems?  Read this and tell me again.

Kathleen Wortman Jones was just another financially strapped New Jersey homeowner until the day she drove up to the Sun National Bank with her 14-year-old twin daughters.

Puts things into perspective.

Hear Woman Roar

Something has erupted in Hawaii, and it isn’t the volcano.  The ever Venemous Kate has spewed an excellent read on today’s modern woman, and what she wants.  Once more, she’s proven that she’s one of the most interesting writers in the blogsphere.

Yeah, I wanted to rant. Boy did I want to rant. But I just couldn’t.

You see, I don’t think Fred’s entirely wrong.

Heh, I always thought it was the hormonal imbalances that made women tick…if it was only so simple.

If you haven’t added her to your regular reading list, you’re clearly missing out.

Get Whitey

Paul at Frozen in Montreal has an entry on how he thinks South Africa is heading down the Zimbabwe road…

At any rate, here’s what I’m driving at: is this move actually to create a (thief-?) friendly atmosphere, or is this the first phase of a South African attempt to “pull a Mugabe”, as it were, and get rid of Whitey?

As distasteful as we were told Apartheid was, it’s far too rapid removal has completely destablized the stable part of Africa.  There must have been a better way to undo it, and I think S. Africa will only proceed down, like Zimbabwe.

Afrikaaners should be given refugee status in Canada.

Kate hates Americans

This morning on Howard Stern, Howie was talking about how spoiled Kate Hudson.  I could only find this blog entry via google, so it seems no one really cares.  Here’s the quote from the blog:

She explains, “Sometimes I’ll be walking down the street and I’ll hear some American and I’ll just go, ‘Of course they hate us, of course they can’t stand us. We’re the most annoying, boisterous creatures in the world.’ I mean we come in and we eat mounds of food, and we’re like, ‘Where’s the ketchup for our French fries.’ I’m like, ‘Shut up.’” ”

Many of the comments on the blog are similar to my feelings and Howie’s: she’s just another no talent silver spooned bitch that really is biting the American ass that’s fed her sooo well.

Hypocrisy x 10.

Read the archives of Stern to see what he had to say.
