Pay the price

The US is charging for treason.  Seems fair to me.

The United States is threatening $1million fines and 12-year prison sentences for anyone who did business with Iraq this year, including those who travelled there as “human shields.”

Highway reality TV

Being on the road so much, stories like this never surprise me, but always make me shake my head.

“I swear I don’t make this stuff up,” said OPP Sergeant Cam Woolley, who solicits stories of driver misconduct from the rangers who patrol Highway 400 on the long weekend.

There’s probably 100 drivers for every one that is pulled over that should be pulled over.

No 9/11 Coverage

Rachel Lucas isn’t the only one disgusted with the lack of 9/11 coverage.

And now, just like me and most of you, she’s disgusted by the planned absence of 9/11 coverage on television. So she’s doing something about it with a project called Voices. Which I’m going to be linking to a lot in the next few weeks as part of my own personal coverage of the anniversary. So if you have stories, photos, or anything else you feel commemorates 9/11, please send them to Michele using the info she provides.

It seems the media is doing its best to ignore the tragedy.

Labor Woes

Steyn on the downtrodden labor industry.

This Labour Day weekend, I find myself thinking about the working class, the masses.

The term Labor Day has really outlived its usefulness.  End of Summer Day is more relevant to most people, as the sweatshops have long since closed.

Toyota tops

I have to admit, I’ve contributed to this trend.

If sales trends don’t change dramatically, Toyota will sell more cars in the United States this year than each of the two brands that have dominated for a century: Chevrolet and Ford.

My Pontiac was in the shop more than I cared to think about.  It was mostly due to the Dexcool corrosion issue.  So, I dumped it before it got out of hand and bought a new Sienna.

You can feel the quality difference instantly.  This will be one hard trend to buck, domestic auto makers.

Out of Detroit

The hand-wringing continues on whether or not the US should get out of Iraq.

Should the Americans withdraw from Detroit?

While they have been able to hold Detroit since General Harrison recaptured it after the Battle of Lake Erie (in 1813), hardly a day now goes by in which there is not an ambush or a killing. The rate has been rising through Detroit’s notoriously long hot summer.

Feed the king

Mugabe feasts, while his peasants starve.

Furnishings and security for the President’s new residence are expected to send the cost to $15 million at a time when nearly half of Zimbabwe’s population is dependent on international food aid.

I’m sure it’s all Britain’s fault, too.  Glad to see the South Africans are helping out (another prosperous country destroyed).

Sources in the building industry say landscaping and interior decoration - supervised by Mrs Mugabe, renowned for her expensive tastes - will be carried out by South Africans.

Payback

Canadians, especially in the west, are paying the price for Crouton’s anti-Americanism.  First, it was softwood for BC.  Then, it was cattle for Alberta.  Now, it’s wheat for Saskatchewan.

The U.S. Department of Commerce today issued a final ruling that the Canadian Wheat Board receives subsidies and dumps wheat into the U.S. market. The ruling imposes duties of 14.16 percent on Canadian wheat imports of hard red spring wheat and 13.55 percent on imports of durum wheat.

The giant can punish the insubordinate Canada in devastating ways.

I’d be surprised if a Liberal comes even close to winning in the next election west of Winnipeg.

Hourly rate?

Makes you wonder whether we live in Canada or Africa.  Today, there was a traffic jam for almost 12 hours, as drivers lined up for free gas - average take was $45.

The lineups started late last night outside one Scarborough gas station.

By the numbers of drivers and length of the lines, you’d think we lived in Zimbabwe.

Angel Vulture

For those of us who think tow truck drivers are all ravenous vultures (accident tows start at $250), we have this hero.

A tow-truck driver turned hero on Highway 401 Wednesday after a five-car pileup that left a 3-year-old girl fighting for her life.

It’s also a dangerous job - about 1 per year are killed on the 401 in the GTA alone, usually hooking up cars and getting crushed by other drivers.

Mother Whore

Ah, Madonna’s kids must be so proud of their mother, acting like a whore.

Then, while Madonna sang her new “Hollywood” in a masculine all-black outfit, she shared an open-mouthed kiss with Aguilera and Spears.

It’s getting harder to protect your children from the pornographic mainstream media.

Haunting words

Transcripts of the victims of 9/11 from the WTC were released today.

“In general, they show people performing their duties very heroically and very professionally on a day of horror,” said Port Authority spokesman Greg Trevor.

Never forget.

Energize me

Good to see some cities, no matter how small, take blackouts seriously.

The world’s biggest battery was plugged in yesterday to provide emergency power to one of the United States’ most isolated cities.

More Child abuse

More passive child abuse by ignorant parents.

His baby face and hairless head zippered with hundreds of stitches, a small boy lies in a pediatric intensive-care bed recovering from a dog attack last week his doctors did not expect him to survive.

Let’s see, massive attack jaws, dog bred for its guarding characteristics….clearly a threat to anyone, even if it is normally cuddly.

Wake up parents!

Daycare debate

Ultra-socialist Quebec can hardly afford the so-called $5 daycare, so it appears it will study it and perhaps reign it in.

Quebec will begin consulting interest groups on the future of daycare services in the province Wednesday,

Instead of bribing people with others’ tax money, so strangers can raise the kids, how about letting people keep more of their own money, so they can raise their kids themselves?  How about starting with a $12000 exemption per child per year?
