B is for Billion

These two guys will be the newest billionaires when this deal goes through.

Google, which was founded by two Stanford computer science graduate students in 1998 and quickly became one of the most popular Web sites in the world, has in recent weeks become the subject of intense speculation since it indicated to Wall Street that it hoped to sell shares of itself to the public sometime in the first half of next year.

Google is to the internet what Coke is to the soft drink market – without the competition.

It can last

Some stories are happy ones.  Yes, Virginia, marriages can last a long time, especially, it seems, when they originate in simpler times.

When he first saw her, he immediately knew she was the girl he wanted to marry. More than eight decades later, George Limpert still thinks his wife, Amelia, is the most beautiful woman he’s ever seen.

Short lived promises

Continuing in the Liberal tradition to break promises, electricity prices will soon be unfrozen.

The Ontario government will lift its rate cap on electricity prices as one measure to deal with a massive budget deficit, Premier Dalton McGuinty said Thursday.

Boy, that cancelation must have been done in record time, even for the Liberals.  You know it won’t be the last.  Hang on to your wallet!

Falling legacy

Chretien’s legacy as PM could mainly be his canceling and unravelling of contracts by his predecessor

.  One of the most dangerous ones appears to be the canceling of the helicopter contract – as they are now simply dropping out of the sky.

Next Tuesday will mark the 10th anniversary of the Liberal government’s cancellation of a multibillion-dollar order to replace the Sea Kings. The government has said it plans to buy replacements, but a convoluted contract process has dragged on for years.

Schiavo case

I haven’t found much support for my opinion of Mr. Shiavo anywhere on the blogsphere.  In fact, I have found opinion stating that Michael is really evil for trying to carry out Terri’s alleged wishes.

This blog has an entry with Terri’s parents’ response to the LKL interview.

I questioned Bob and Mary about several of the claims that Michael made on the Larry King show, and they had quite a bit to say in response.

I probably don’t know enough of the case to be very accurate in determining the truth.  Perhaps Michael did want the money right away for himself and not for Terri’s rehabilitation.  Then, when the money was burned up in legal fees, he decided to continue the fight for the sake of fighting, to save face.

That probably is closer to the truth.  Either way you look at it, I wonder if anyone with as few brain waves as Terri could ever recover?  That defies logic, to be sure, and could easily be seen by Michael as a motive to not prolong her life.

Clearly, there are no easy answers or solutions to this case.

Jihad Watch

LGF has spawned two blogs that are must reading for all who want to understand what the war on terror is all about.

Robert Spencer, author of Islam Unveiled and the newly released Onward Muslim Soldiers, can go toe to toe with Islamic scholars, quoting Qu’ranic chapter and verse to illustrate his points. And now he has a shiny new web site (designed by LGF, natch!) to promote his books and ideas—with a weblog, of course: Jihad Watch.

Attack Babies

Since we are talking about biting attacks, I had to show you this story.

A Croatian woman has been charged with negligence after a 13-month-old toddler was bitten dozens of times by other babies at a kindergarten.

I knew kids got aggressive, especially when they are not getting the one on one attention they need and demand at a year old – but this case is bizarre.  Not sure that the babysitter should be charged, either.

Here piggy piggy

Nothing like seeing your friends get caught to make you wanna ‘fess up before you get nailed too, eh?

Environment Minister David Anderson is the fourth Liberal cabinet minister to admit he accepted free air flights and hospitality from the billionaire Irving family amid allegations of conflict of interest.

I think Canadians now agree that the Liberal appointed stooge that is the ethic commissioner is simply ornamental or even ceremonial.

He is obviously just an afterthought to these freeloading ministers.  Such are the characteristics of the one party state.

Adler on Kyoto

I miss Charles Adler here in Toronto.  Here’s an article he’s written on the NDP in Winnipeg using Kyoto as a guise to get more transit megaprojects to nowhere going.

He points out that one of the fastest growing economies on earth is not even signed on to Kyoto, but Canada and its liberal heirarchy push this self-inflicted economic terrorism as gospel.

Never mind that China has more than 30 times our population and hasn’t signed this thing.

The politically correct thinking is that we cannot expect them to be on board, because they are in the Third World, and aren’t as advanced as we are technologically.

Keep fighting the good fight, Chas!

Killer dogs

When oh when are we going to treat these dogs for what they are?  When even the breeders cannot keep their own kids safe from maulings, how is the average person supposed to deal with one of these attackers on the loose?

Low said her daughter received more than 100 puncture wounds to her body from the waist down and one to her neck where one of the dogs clamped onto her throat, preventing her from screaming for help.

“The dogs didn’t just bite her, they were eating her,” Jynnie’s father Clark Kent told CFTO News.

I can just hear the argument now: the dogs are usually so friendly around kids, they’ve never done anything like this before…

If someone can point out a practical reason for having these dogs around, let me know.  It appears kids don’t have a chance around them.

Michael Schiavo

The husband of Terri Schiavo, Michael, was on Larry King tonite.

It’s quite a case if you’ve been following it.  Every now and then Larry does a good interview, and in this case, Michael came across very sincere and eloquent.  I have to say I am on his side – Terri should be allowed to die peacefully.  She is certifiably brain dead.

If this case teaches you one thing, it should be to have a living will.  Ask your spouse what they want if they become brain dead or into a similar incapacitated condition – and write it down.

For a spouse to be this passionate and attentive is incredible.  To put one’s life on hold for this long, and then to endure death threats and the invading eye of the media is simply incredible.  Michael Schiavo, if he is being completely honest (and multiple judges and judgements says he is), is an outstanding individual.

Ban them outright

The new mayor of Toronto should weigh in on the streetcars on St. Clair debate – and vote to ban them altogether.

With the outcry making the streetcar lanes an election issue, both the city and the TTC say all options are on the table—including scrapping the streetcar altogether—and that no decision has been made.

The money that would save is enormous – not to mention would make traveling on St. Clair that much easier for all, including new busses.
