Chicken Little Reporting

Why do I have a hard time believing this study?

Forget about hydrogen fuel cells, wind power, nuclear reactors and even global warming. The real energy crisis is that worldwide production of oil and natural gas will peak by 2020, warn some of the country’s top experts.

Could it have anything to do with the Liberal agenda to impose Kyoto on us?  Where does the group get its funding?  Looks like the government.

I have no problem with nuclear energy – joule for joule, it is a clean, low risk form of generation.  After Three Mile Island, it is simply a political hot potato.  This study is simply there to brace Canadians for higher energy prices, thanks to taxes and subsidies that will simply transfer out of this country to other Kyoto sinkholes.

Wal*mart Country

An interesting piece on the biggest company in the world, Wal-Mart.

Gray earned $14.68 an hour with a pension and family health insurance. Wal-Mart grocery workers typically make less than $9 an hour.

Love ‘em or hate ‘em, they have cheap prices.

With cheap prices, comes a price.  It’s a zero sum game. (use login “generic”, pw “generic”)

Update: Peaktalk has an entry saying overall, Wal*Mart is good for everyone involved.

Murder City

When the homicide cops are working overtime, and are asked not to take holidays this year, you know you have a problem.

He couldn’t have picked a better day, considering we’ve just endured yet another bloody weekend in Toronto – three gun murders, four stabbings, a drive by shooting in which two men narrowly escaped death and a home invasion in which the victim was pistol-whipped.

Don’t expect any laws to change – as we now are swirling in a complete sea of Liberal red – at all levels.

Welcome to communism!

Update 1100h- And again…another shooting. Keep piling up the bodies!

Back on shore

I am always glad to see a few jobs come back from the slave labor centers of India and China.

After an onslaught of complaints, direct sales computer king Dell Inc. has stopped routing corporate customers to a technical support call center in Bangalore, India.

Child poverty

Another fresh list of child poverty statistics, and the same old solutions are trotted out.

?Children in lone parent families are four times as likely to be poor as children in two-parent families,? the report said.

Here’s an idea: how about letting the working poor keep more of their money?  How about giving a decent tax break for each kid?  Why is it always a subsidy that is required, a transfer from someone else?  How about some financial benefit to being married and supporting one’s own kids?  Since there is no social pressure to be or stay married, it makes sense to offer a financial incentive, if for no one else but the kids.

DP for Snipey

They should have a marksman whack him from the back of a trunk, while he wanders from gas station to convenience store – unaware of when he’s going to get it.  The terror he inflicted on innocent people going about their business should be given right back to him.

Jurors decided today that John Allen Muhammad should be executed for masterminding the deadly sniper attacks that terrified the Washington area for three weeks last fall.

Back to business

Now that the holidays are over, it’s time to get back to business for our friends at Al Qaeda.

?The big blow will fall very shortly. It will consist of a series of surprise attacks that will cut America off from communication with its armies in Muslim countries.?

The US/EU divide

A very good essay on the fundamental difference between the US and the EU on risk, and the war on terror via Iraq.

Life is risk. Everything we do can lead to disaster, and disasters great and small happen all the time. If you plot seriousness versus prevalence on a chart, the result is not a bell curve. It’s more like a power curve, with an inverse relationship between seriousness and likelihood.

Savages

Any doubt that the rehabilitation of Iraq was going to be easy is clearly erased after reading about this attack on US soldiers.

Iraqi teenagers dragged two bloodied American soldiers from a wrecked vehicle, pummelled them with concrete blocks and slit their throats today, witnesses said, describing a burst of savagery in a city once safe for Americans.

This kind of imagery is exactly what the US public will use to get their leaders to get them out of Iraq.  No one said it would be easy…

Right track

You know the merger is on the right track when loser MP Joe Clark says he’ll sit out of the new party.

Former prime minister Joe Clark has indicated he’s ready to sit as an independent if his Progressive Conservative Party joins ranks with the Canadian Alliance.

Referrer log spam

If there is anyone out there who knows how to fix the LGF referrer log script so that it stops accepting spam links from the pRon sites, let me know.

It’s very aggravating!  Surely there must be a way.  Someone mentioned linking it to the images on your page.

News from the front

As usual, we must rely on the blogsphere to get the real story on the anti-Bush protest numbers.

I took this pic of the US Embassy at lunchtime today. Like me, I’m sure you can clearly see 150,000 people. Enough said?

La Separation date

Forget about Quebec separating: how about the West?  This story is enough to make any English (you know, the universal language of the world) speaking person’s blood curdle.

Then, a year ago, the Public Service Commission issued a report warning that two-thirds of the English-speaking and visible minority managers being groomed as the next leaders of the public service wouldn’t qualify under the policy. At that time, nearly 70 per cent of those who wanted to pursue executive careers didn’t have the language skills for the jobs without more training.

I know one can learn a language, but this policy is so close to being racist it probably is.

The government is simply creating a governing class of francophone elites – there is no other way to look at this.  Francophones learn English so they can survive in the modern world.  There is no good reason for the average English speaking person in Canada to learn French – unless you are trying to comply with discriminatory policies like this.  I hope someone uses Trudeau’s hated charter to oppose this insanity.

No more SPAM!

Since I usually get 200-300 emails a day that are sent to the spam box, it’s hard not to like this law.

“Now we can go back to looking forward to opening our inboxes in the morning because we’ll have notes from our friends rather than herbal supplements and mortgage offers,” said Rep. Heather Wilson (search), R-N.M.

I am especially for this intervention if the spam is causing network congestion, otherwise holding up legitimate business.

The way things are going, it appears that SPAM is affecting networks fairly adversely.  Now we need to go after the virus makers, who sent over 3000 emails my way in a few hours last week,
