Asphalt irony

I wonder if PM squared see the irony in this GTA road horror story.

Prime Minister Paul Martin has the solution for beating Toronto gridlock—a motorcade complete with police escort. In fact, Martin’s motorcade caused some traffic jams yesterday as the PM was whisked to the Royal York for a speech to the Ontario Good Roads Association.

Why I like Rummy

Rumsfeld at first had dashed to the impact site. In his shirt and tie, he helped transport the wounded.

The last two sentences tell you everything you need to know about Donald Rumsfeld.

Sell the LCBO

Even the Star (again I use the phrase) publishes an article in support of selling the LCBO.

Now, in the wake of McGuinty’s “floating” of the idea again 18 years later, the unions have already trotted out NDP MPP Gilles Bisson to start campaigning against it.

Perhaps it’s because they don’t like the big business part of the cartel that runs the Beer Store, but still, there is no reason for the government to be selling alcohol.  Perhaps they could convert the outlets into drug outlets, and sell weed and H there.  There certainly is more profit in drugs, if that is their motivation.

Update:Looks like the Beer Store is trying to save its own skin

“The LCBO spends less which nets the government more tax revenue, customer convenience improves dramatically, store traffic goes way up … it doesn’t get much better than that,” added Newton.

Uh, it does actually.  We could close all the stores and put them in corner stores and grocery stores.

More ulcer news

Hope you don’t have an ulcer, because if you do, this story won’t help it.

Climate change over the next 20 years could result in a global catastrophe costing millions of lives in wars and natural disasters..

It may be true that the climate is changing, but do humans have anything to do with?  That’s where the jury is out and what this story is missing.

The New Toronto

Even The Star can’t help but notice the wave of murder and destruction in Toronto.

A weekend of violence in and near Toronto has left six people dead, several others seriously injured and a 12-year-old girl traumatized after a stranger assaulted her in her own home.

The Liberal legacy on crime continues…

Same-Sex Marriage & Parenting

I’ve heard enough about SSM in Canada.  The topic is bubbling over in the US these days.  Here is an interesting thread on SSM and parenting you may wish to read.  A Harris’ comment is particulary good.

My argument against same-sex parenting is that the children raised by two such persons automatically are taught that their sexual perversions are, and should be treated as, normative conduct. This is the equivalent of a child being raised by a pair of armed bank robbers, such as Bonnie and Clyde, who would automatically learn from their parents that armed theft is normative conduct.

Stammering Porky Paul

Adler thinks someone should do some jail time.

It’s not about politics as usual. It’s about burglary.” That’s the blood I coughed up when squeezed by Canada AM host Bev Thomson

He also noticed that PM PM is stammering more than ever.  Someone must be feeling nervous.

Distinct all right

Bob at Trudeaupia has an instructional post about what makes Quebec really distinct.

Up until 1968 the British model of decentralized free institutions suited Canada fine, even when the Prime Minister was a French Canadian. Until then if there was a conflict between French and Anglo ideas it tended to be the Anglo majority that would triumph. That only changed when we elected a megalomaniac who decided to remodel the federal government into something more amenable to the French intellectuals on the left bank of the Seine.

It’s no wonder the West wants to separate.  Reform ideas from the 80s are just as relevant today as they were then.  We need to get back to decentralizing government, starting at the top.  Maybe then we can keep more of our own money.

Feel good garbage

The city of Toronto is more interested in being politically correct than fiscally responsible, even with its garbage.

But it won’t be cheap. The company is charging $72 a tonne while trucking costs bring the total to $115 a tonne, compared with the $90 a tonne it costs the city to compost organics at its own facility.

Composting is much costlier than trucking garbage to a landfill in Michigan, which works out to about $52 a tonne.

What is the cost of garbage if we burn it, and use the energy to create electricity?  Answer: a lot less.  Keep paying, Toronto taxpayers, and feel good.

Mayor fiddles, bullets fly

As the mayor launches studies that only benefit his political friends, bullets keep flying and kids keep dying on the streets of Malvern.

It’s another outrageous incident in a city that’s seen too many of them. A 16-year-old boy is in Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, after being shot two times in a drive-by ambush.

Here’s a solution: take the money and buy another cop car and hire two more cops.  That will do more than your do-nothing studies.

President Edwards?

edwards.jpg style=border-style:solid;border-right-width: 20px; border-color: yellow align=left width=295 height=196 I know he seems far behind, but for some reason my gut seems to think that Sen. Edwards is going to win the nomination.  I really don’t have a clue what he stands for at this point (no I haven’t read his site yet)…but just based on his charisma vs. Kerry’s, he seems to have a huge lead.

Time will tell.

Bovine Flatulence Mitigation Program

Great post over at Trudeaupia.

Taking our cue from the Globe, we’ll all just have to agree that there are more important things to talk about than the observation that our democracy is declining into a vindictive kleptocracy. Nothing more to see here folks.
