Whithering families

When the basic building block of society is no longer, one can only wonder about society’s future.

Forget about the white dress, flowers and the stress of a guest list—more couples are choosing to live common-law instead of getting married, according to a new Canadian survey…On the downside, common-law couples are four times more likely to break up than married couples, according to the report.

A cautionary tale

More proof that the government is one of the worst managers of money.

SKYDOME—the white elephant that cost mostly taxpayers $600 million to build—has been sold to the Blue Jays for a bargain basement $25 million, less than the going price of a mansion in Oakville…It’s bizarre that a top player could have bought his own stadium, said Tasha Kheiriddin, with the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.

“It’s disgusting. There’s little taxpayers can do except point to this as a cautionary tale against subsidizing sports franchises,” Kheiriddin said.

It’s amazing people are willing to send more and more of their money to have the government squander it.

Auto-sight

Hard to believe Toronto is run by car-haters when you read stories like this.

A NEW YORK TIMES report predicting that Ontario would surpass Michigan in auto production this year is pessimistic, industry watchdog Dennis DesRosiers says. With Ontario plants expected to assemble about 2.7 million light vehicles in 2004, Ward’s Automotive said the gap between Michigan and Ontario could be about 89,000 units.

Toronto should embrace the auto – celebrate it – it owes its livelihood to it.

Welcome GWB

It’s worthy to note that since Ottawa’s Liberals are finally learning to be hospitable to the leader of the free world, the most memorable quote was from GWB himself.

Bush says his reception was warm and hospitable. And at a news conference, he offered his thanks to Canadians who waved to him—as he put it—“with all five fingers.”

Maybe if Canada stops hacking at the Bush administration they may get some of their issues solved.

Good to see the rent-a-crowds were essentially a bust.

What a mess

Abnormal families created by selfish “parents” sure can be messy when they disintegrate.

A sperm donor appears to have won a round in the fight to be part of his young daughter’s life, reaching a custody deal with one of the girl’s two gay mothers, say court documents.

At least normal families had a reason to exist in the first place.

Road Rage Cards

I’ve thought about these for years – finally someone has made them and put them on sale.

Road Rage Cards is just what you need if you really want to make a statement.

The printing is large and easy to read from a distance. The cards are tabbed and arranged by topic, so you can find the right card fast.

Greatest Canadian?

This Greatest Canadian stunt over at the CBC is taking on foolish proportions.  I’ve heard Trudeau will take the bogus prize, which of course is crazy, but understandable from the CBC.

This writer thinks Terry Fox should win.  I admit he was a good guy, but greatest ever?

Decent people, but misguided. Terry Fox, whose footsteps still ring from St. John’s Harbour to Thunder Bay, is Canada’s greatest.

If enough people knew their history, the man that helped cobble together this country, John A., should win.  Alas, history is hardly taught and rarely learned in Canada, so I’m sure he’ll be far down the list.

Pot proud

I’m sure our government is proud of this latest study.

THE NUMBER of young Canadians smoking pot and injecting drugs has doubled over the last decade, according to a groundbreaking national study.

Certainly fits with their plan to decriminalize pot.  What a generation we are bringing up.

Rivers dies

I grew up on AM radio – and was slow to switch to FM.  Therefore, I liked Tom Rivers and his ilk, and am sad to hear he died.

Everything about Tom Rivers was big: His size (6-foot-8 “in round figures,” as he’d say), his genuine talent for mayhem and his impact on Toronto.

It’s about time

Finally we can see Fox TV – too bad it’s not on basic cable.

Canadian fans of Fox TV will soon be able to watch the network’s lively and controversial all-news channel here in Canada.

He’s got a spine

It appears the PM can take action – although I heard the real reason he booted her is for her anti-Liberal comments.  Either way, she’s a liability who is doing no one any good.  She’d better call Nunziatia for advice on what to do in the political wilderness.

Prime Minister Paul Martin dropped the hammer on outspoken MP Carolyn Parrish today and no one shed a tear over her ouster from the Liberal caucus.

We’re Not Sorry

Me neither.  Get your photos in here.

A majority of Americans who voted reelected President Bush on Nov. 2nd.

There is no reason for us to apologize to the rest of the world because of our belief in Freedom and Democracy.

This website is for those of us who want to say to our fellow Americans and to the rest of the World that we believe in President Bush and we believe in his agenda.

Pity the children

No matter how chaotic parents make their children’s lives, it’s amazing how resilient and brave they can be.

“This young man, in all this confusion, had the forethought to wake up his two siblings and, in their bare feet and pyjamas, walked down the street to a home where they had friends,” Toronto homicide Detective Mark Mendelson said yesterday.

Children never ask to come into this world.  Clearly, both of these kids’ parents made terrible choices – how kind of their foolish father to finally realize what he needs to do.  I hope the Children’s Aid fund doesn’t get near him.

Nothing right about it

She’s old, without a husband, and clearly selfish – you have to feel sorry for this woman’s babies.  More proof that science is clearly more capable then some people’s ethics.

Just three days shy of her 57th birthday, Aleta St. James has given birth to twins.

Firefox 1 out

Now is the time to put the boots to IE and Microsoft.

A NEW front has been opened in the long-dormant browser war, with the first full version on the open source Firefox browser aiming to challenge Microsoft’s dominant Internet Explorer.
