Great day for contracts

Finally, with barely a whimper, the McSquinty Liberal’s pathetic attempt to bully a company, who signed a contract in good faith, has ended.

Today the Ontario Court of Appeal denied the province leave to appeal the divisional court ruling regarding plate denial for outstanding 407 ETR debts.

Wonder how many millions this wild goose chase cost.

Peerflix

Here is an interesting service that I just joined.  Let’s see how well it works.

Keep what you receive. You own them.

You own what you receive.  That means you can keep them as long as you like or trade them again.  There will never be any late fees.

Too bad it doesn’t seem to work for VHS tapes.  I have hundreds.

AAADD

Do you have it?

Do you suffer from AAADD?

Recently, I was diagnosed with A. A. A. D. D. -

Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder.

This is how it manifests:

History is repeating II

More commentary from my list of great writers that history is repeating itself.

Even after the experience of the Great War, and the Depression, people on the eve of the Hitler war could not appreciate what was coming.

Will the world realize it after it’s too late?

Live Free Or Else!

I’ve always liked the state motto of New Hampshire.  Here’s an entry on what’s up with it today.

Liberals hate “Live Free Or Die.” They hated it in the late 60s and early 70s, when I lived in New Hampshire, and they hate it still. The only difference is that liberals have grown more powerful in the state as southern New Hampshire increasingly consists of Boston bedroom communities.

History is repeating

Steyn warns that history repeats itself, and it’s doing so right now.  Problem is, no-one wants to notice.

This month, there was another murder. Ilan Halimi, also 23, also Jewish, was found by a railway track outside Paris with burns and knife wounds all over his body. He died en route to the hospital, having been held prisoner, hooded and naked, and brutally tortured for almost three weeks by a gang that had demanded half a million dollars from his family. Can you take a wild guess at the particular identity of the gang? During the ransom phone calls, his uncle reported that they were made to listen to Ilan’s screams as he was being burned while his torturers read out verses from the Quran.

Update: Debbie Schlussel has an entry on the subject.

Moms should stay home

You don’t see this in today’s media.

I do know, however, that a woman’s place is in the home.

There, it’s been said. The unthinkable has been uttered. I can only wonder what the various highly intelligent women who edit my column are saying as they read this, but that’s hardly the point. A woman’s place is in the home.

I’ll water that down a bit and say that one parent should stay home, although I have to agree, a mother has more natural instincts to raise children than a man.

Update: A passionate sahm (stay-at-home-mom) gives her two cents.

Long live Britain

Steyn writes on the enduring legacy of the British Empire.

In other words, there is simply nothing comparable in scale or endurance to the Britannic inheritance.

AIDS truth

Some info on AIDS that you won’t see in the mainstream media.

Far more die every year of breast and prostate cancer, for example, than die of AIDS, though these diseases are given about a tenth of the money for research that is given for AIDS.

It’s time for those suffering from prostate problems to rise up and demand their share of sympathy money.

On Bird Flu and other nasty exports

Mark turns another book review into a powerhouse column on the downside of globalization.

Indeed, when you look at it that way, the biggest globalization success story of recent years is not McDonald’s or Nike, but Islamism:

Women’s issues

My favorite discovery of 2006 so far is Steyn at Macleans, doing what he does best as book reviewer.

Here’s a book review in his amazing, unmistakeable style.

What patriarchal dragons are left for feminists to slay? Well, according to Rachel Smolkin in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, “Women make up only 1.3 per cent of plumbers, pipe fitters and steamfitters . .

Amazing bridge

One of my favorite parts of my trip to FLA was this bridge.

The Sunshine Skyway Bridge is the world’s longest cable-stayed concrete bridge, with a length of 29,040 feet (exactly 5.5 miles or approximately 8.85 km).

Quite a site—and all for only $1 toll.

Why Can’t I Own a Canadian?

I like Dr. Laura, although I know that life doesn’t really work in absolutes.  Her mantra on a parent should raise their own kid, while apparently out of vogue with today’s parents, is well worth listening to over and over again in a anti-stay-at-home parent world.

I wonder if this letter ever got a response from her.

Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God’s Law. I have learned a great deal from your show, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can.

She’s not on in Toronto any more, and apparently she’s on XM (I have Sirius.)

Four kid family

Good to see W. Gairdner has a blog.  He’s got an entry on what he sees as a future government’s answer to the population decline.

The Four-child family will come roaring back; feminism of the radical, anti-family kind will become extremely unpopular, and anyone preaching it or teaching it will become a social pariah; the practice of homosexuality, the gay lifestyle, and gay “marriage” will once again be seen as unnatural, unpatriotic, against the good of society and driven underground, if not recriminalized; huge tax relief and tax credit and school subsidy packages and mortgage relief will be created to encourage large families, and so on. Bet on it.

I wouldn’t bet on it, especially if we have a female prime minister.  Of course, I wouldn’t bet on that either.

Tap your past

Drawing upon seniors for sage advice is an age old idea – so doing it at the city government level shouldn’t be any different.

The good old days often weren’t, and good old politicians often were clay from the feet up. Yet I remember how surprised I was when I met Tony O to discover he wasn’t just a headline chaser but had a lively, quotable and informed view on every urban issue.
