This last drunk missed me by minutes…
All southbound lanes of the Don Valley Parkway have reopened at Don Mills Rd. following an early morning accident.
TheStar.com | GTA | DVP re-opens after three-car collision.
While driving around this crash, I noticed that when I re-boarded the
DVP at the Bayview-Bloor on ramp, that even a sober driver could be confused with the lane configuration to board the northbound highway. In the absence of other cars leading the way, one could conceivably keep to the left, which is north. This of course would lead you to the southbound lanes, and cause a crash as the above article tells. There is a large DO NOT ENTER sign, but in the darkness, it could be missed. The solution is to put a large overhead sign up, with appropriate flashing lights, clearly marking the appropriate lanes. This way, even a drunk driver would probably stay in the proper lane.
Update: Education for the Driving MASSES says he got on at Dundas. On retrospect, there is no ramp at Dundas for southbound access, so it must have been the confusing Bayview Bloor ramp.
