Another week, another soldier blown up

Controlled explosion of IED, US Army in Iraq.
Image via Wikipedia

Talking to a military man recently, he said that many of these boys would be alive today if we were flying the Chretien-canceled helicopters.  Instead, we are driving these jeeps over tank mines, some of them doubled up.  In other words, we don’t have a chance.

A roadside bomb blast killed another Canadian soldier Saturday in southern Afghanistan, the latest death in what has become a bloody winter for the troops here.

Divorce is hell

This should scare any man considering getting rid of his wife.

Wayne Tippett has just two things of any real value left in his life: a 10-year-old car and a granite tombstone.

via TheStar.com | living | Devastated by divorce court.

My advice to this guy: leave the country – fast.  Try Mexico.  Since you have no kids, don’t come back.

Raw deal?

Is this another case where the law is wrong?  Is big business and big government controlling milk distribution?  If so, why?  My only wish is that this guy had a lawyer defending him, as he may lose just on a technicality.  Are there no pro-b

Adolph and kin

Common Loon

While the parents of these kids are loons, I hope the state had a better reason to remove the kids from the home.

A 3-year-old boy named Adolf Hitler and his two Nazi-named younger sisters were removed from their New Jersey home last week and placed in state custody, police said.

Goodbye Jarvis St.?

Jarvis Street

Avenue Rd, Church, Sherbourne, Eastern – and now Jarvis?  When will the anti-car zealots of the city core stop?

Moore Park resident Ellen Greenwood thinks removing the centre lane from Jarvis St. — and turning the heavily used north-south commuter route into a “cultural corridor” — makes absolutely no sense at all.

Fox is first

I like Fox News – and I am sorry it isn’t part of the basic cable package.  Apparently Lawrence Solomon likes it too.

I commend these all to you, but I especially commend the gold standard in television news and commentary, the one TV channel indispensable to obtaining an understanding of the events of the day: FOX News.

Finally, an easy way to sync mp3s to the iphone…I had to dig deep to find this in my google search.  So many programs want your money!

This easy-to-follow video tutorial from CNET explains how to create iPhone ringtones using just the iTunes software – the steps stay the same for both Mac and Windows computers.

Skating through winter

It’s January, it’s -12C for the high today, it’s sunny – and it’s a great day to skate.  These are the things that make winter bearable.

Is the pendulum swinging back towards the middle, towards the side of men in custody cases?

In a stunning and unusual family law decision, a Toronto judge has stripped a mother of custody of her three children after the woman spent more than a decade trying to alienate them from their father.

Don’t worry – be happy

An inspirational video for those who think they’ve been dealt a bad hand in life.

It is a great privilege to welcome you to the Life Without Limbs.org website. My name is Nick Vujicic and I’m 25 years old. I was born without arms or legs and given no medical reason for this condition.

Why our kids are getting fat

The only government program that fixes this is one that allows one parent to stay home to fetch and watch the kids between after school and dinnertime. Apparently, this is the most dangerous time for children to go unsupervised.

Greater Fool – Garth’s new blog

Garth-portrait-flag-reduced

Gotta give Garth Turner credit.  He was right that the doom and gloom from the US was going to infect Canada.  Well, it’s January, it’s cold, it’s miserable, and the economy is tanking.  I assume Garth’s new blog will be mostly gloom and doom, so don’t read it if you are the depressive type.

Hopefully the generator guy will call soon… I want to be prepared as his new book points out.

Do What You Can- ya right

Tower of Garbage, Cambodia

Great.  We pay so much tax here in the GTA, and once more, we have to go even further to separate and dispose of our garbage.  We already have three trucks coming to the same address every week, and now I have to drive out of my way to dispose of “select” garbage.   Please lower my local taxes and let me take my own garbage to the dump.  Clearly the city can’t figure out how to pick things up efficiently.

Paints colour our world. Petroleum products keep things moving.

Batteries power the devices we use to remain connected, informed and entertained.
