Tax time for most of us

Comments Off

While you get ready to dig deep, the rich in Canada are busying sending their riches off shore and away. As usual, the little guy pays.

So the result is that most of New Brunswick is still owned by a series of tax-free Bermuda Trusts on behalf of the Irving family. It’s why former Prime Minister Paul Martin’s ship empire was based in Barbados, beyond taxation in Canada, and only a few of us dared to raise a fuss. Bronfman billions were allowed by the government to go to the U.S. tax free and tax loopholes have remained which allow millions to leave daily, with minimal taxation, as long as their Canadian owners “live” offshore for more than half the year.

How to really get rich

Comments Off

I’ve often thought this – and here it is clearly stated. The only way to get ahead is to work together as a family or clan. As difficult as it may be, it’s the smartest and fastest way to accumulate real wealth. If the elites that run the world can do it, why can’t those at the bottom?

A proliferation of openly Christian and ethical fraternal organizations, beginning with a family business, would be the sociological equivalent of free energy.

via Social Capital is Best Store of Wealth – henrymakow.com….

As an aside, I see this on a micro level with my Indian friends. They quite often buy a house, and keep a few families in it and pool their resources. The children are looked after by elders, and all the men (and some women) go and earn income. They can payoff a house in only a few years – and then move on and do the same thing for the next family and their house.

Most “modern” families don’t even visit each other. They move apart, claiming their independence from one another. This goes even further – couples divorce easily and then become further impoverished. Then they must rely on the state and soon realize it is impossible to get ahead when not sharing resources.

Another great idea: read a book! Glad other Canadians are catching on.

Some 250,000 Canadians ditched their cable or satellite services to stream TV online last year, and that number is on the rise.

Working woman’s lament

Comments Off

First of all, there can be no equal treatment at the workplace for males and females in terms of pay. How can you compare a female ( single – has fewer bills, married – has husband to also support her) to a male who has to provide for himself and his family?

The message is consistent in this not-so-eloquent link.

Anyone else have a problem with the story? Why are we boarding boats in the Indian Ocean? Why are we bothering with an infinitesimal amount of heroin? Is this a good use of taxpayers’ money?

As scan and order becomes more widespread, I can see more and more bricks and mortar stores trying this trick.

Anyone else use Amazon’s barcode scanner to comparison shop while in other stores? I do ALL the time.

7 Things You Can’t Say in Canada | Readers Digest

The other thing you can’t say is that M. Wente, this article’s author, is a plagiarist.

Every culture has its unacknowledged taboos—the things you are forbidden to say or do in polite company, the accepted truths you are not allowed to doubt. You might think that a liberal, open-minded country like Canada would be free of such taboos, but you’d be wrong. In spite of our belief in our own enlightened tolerance, some things are simply not open to debate. If you try, you’re bound to shock the neighbours.

Hard to believe 7 years have passed since I saw 49 Up.

I first saw this series at 42 Up. While its premise seems more fascinating than the actual movie, it is still an excellent series well worth the watch.

It’s fascinating how the slogan “give me the child at 7, and I’ll show you the man” is so accurate.
